Avain is the Finnish word for Key.
The name
The name is a tribute to a Finnish family whose generosity shaped the founders’ lives, and a nod to the founders’ own roots. It is the shortest way to say what the company is for.
The premise
A key does not create anything. It opens what is already closed. That is the premise Avain works from.
There is potential already present in families, in people, and in communities that have been overlooked for a long time. Our work is to unlock what is already there rather than to import something in its place.
